Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley has been serving the upper Ottawa Valley since the Ontario College system began in 1967 and for almost 40 years, it has been located in the same facility. Now, as it experiences record enrollments, the College requires a new campus to allow it to expand and create more learning opportunities for students.
Because the current campus is landlocked, expansion is improbable. Building a new College facility will bring many benefits to downtown Pembroke and all of Renfrew County.
With a new campus, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley will be able to:
- Expand access to full-time post-secondary and apprenticeship programs
- Provide an enhanced learning experience for students with leading-edge classrooms, labs, recreational facilities, and green space
- Contribute to the revitalization of Pembroke's downtown by creating new business opportunities which will strengthen the local economy
- Provide employers with a larger skilled labour pool to address regional training needs
- Develop a destination campus to bring more out-of-town students and their families to the region, producing an economic boost and further tourism potential
- Attract and retain more local students, providing families with an economical option of studying in their home community
- Increase academic and support staff to provide additional resources for students
- Offer a modern facility and resources to the public for community usage, expanded corporate training, and new night class opportunities
The current campus at 315 Pembroke Street East is the only building
Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley has ever known.
