Small World Big Picture projects are based on three foundational pillars:

Sustainability: As environmental issues transcend borders and affect our local, national and global communities, sustainability is clear indication of the interconnectedness of our modern world. Small World Big Picture projects endeavour to explore sustainability both locally and internationally by providing background information on environmental issues as well as strategies and avenues to adopt sustainable practices.

Technology: Small World Big Picture projects endeavour to provide an engaging and interactive learning opportunity for participants, highlighting cultures, customs and expeditions around the world. This is accomplished through the use of traditional, new and emerging technologies. Technology has enhanced Small World Big Picture projects with images, video, sound and experiences from around the world, that have been shared openly, often in real time.

International: Small World Big Picture projects aim to engage our local, national, and international communities, through the promotion of interactive learning, cultural understanding and social responsibility. Amongst other things, Small World Big Picture projects have left the legacy of a primary school and a female dormitory in Tanzania.
