One patron insisted that she would be back next year but this time, as a participant.

“Oh, you’re going to submit a painting?” her colleague asked. “No, I’m going to sing.”

A new addition to the Media and Design art show this year was a few musical numbers from Executive Dean Russ Mills and Television Broadcasting professor Randy Dash.

Live entertainment gave the event a really festive feel. Before long, second year Television Broadcasting student, Chelsea Connor – who is an accomplished singer in her own right - was coaxed to the mic for an impromptu set.

This was the third year for the Faculty of Arts, Media and Design Faculty and Staff Art Show. It’s an opportunity for teachers and staff to showcase the talent they bring to the college every day. The artwork was eclectic. There were about 20 displays including fine art, computer generated characters, wood relief works, flower arrangements, and stunning photography.

The show kicked off with a poignant reading from Professor Nathan Greenfield. Nathan read from his latest book about Canadian soldiers who fought in Hong Kong in 1941 and later, spent three years in Japanese POW camps. After the reading, he called for a moment of silence to remember the soldiers who lost their lives in war.

The show ran from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and about 100 visitors enjoyed wine and cheese while browsing the displays and listening to music.

The Art Show is held every year around mid-November – a wonderful release from marking projects and mid-term exams. If this year’s success is any indication, the 4th annual event is sure to be hit. Mark your calendar.
