In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto
By Michael Pollen
I just finished reading Michael Pollen's In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto. I have nothing but good things to say about this book. I first read Michael Pollen last summer with the Omnivore's Dilemma, which is a thoughtful and engrossing book about the history of four meals: a fast food meal, a healthy organic meal, a not-so healthy organic meal, and a meal produced from hunting and gathering. In Defense of Food moves away from the history of food into the realm of an advice book.
If you have ever wondered "What's for dinner?" this is the book for you. Pollen delivers simple but profound tidbits of knowledge like "eat real food," "avoid foods your grandmother would not recognize as food," "eat at the table and not in your car," and "shop in the outside aisles of the supermarket." All things that you probably already know but might need a reminder to follow.
