Cartoons: The Wacky Neighbours that Build Communities

picture of Sheree Bradford-LeaSheree Bradford-Lea

Cartoons have been with us from the stone age and are still present everywhere--in books, television, movies, advertisements, newspapers, fine art, clip art.  Although there are serious cartoons, the funny ones are the stars of any community.  A cartoon gives us permission to relax, share our frustrations through laughter, and use the content as a springboard to talk about the controversial or poke fun at the rich and powerful, all without risk. This workshop will touch on the connections that are made through one of the most prevalent cartooning styles, the funny single panel cartoon.   A short power point presentation will be followed by a couple of group cartooning games that are not geared to drawing ability, and demonstrate just how easily cartoons bring people together.
